How to Find High Quality, Affordable V-Boards (Vee Boards)

Luckily, it isn’t too hard to find high quality yet affordable v-boards. However, you must know what sizes and types of v-boards (sometimes refered to as “vee boards”) you need before you start your search. v-boards are usually made of three different materials including plastic, wood and aluminum. Below is a description of each and insight on which material is better suited for your cargo.

Aluminum V-Boards – Aluminum v-boards are the most expensive kind. Although aluminum is a heavy duty material, it can easily bend and warp out of shape. When this happens, you risk damaging your cargo and possibly injuring anyone who is trying to use the v-board on the cargo. Over the years, this type of v-board has become much less popular among transporters, manufacturers, warehouse workers, and anyone that tends to use v-boards as protection for their cargo.

Wood V-Boards – Wood v-boards are easy to find and not as expensive as aluminum. Nevertheless, they can easily snap, twist out of shape and splinter. This can cause damage to the cargo after prolonged use and possibly even injury to those who apply the v-boards to the cargo. Wood v-boards are also known to collect and hold harmful pathogens which can contaminate the cargo and anything it touches.

Plastic v-boards – Plastic v-boards have become increasingly popular over the years since wood and aluminum v-boards have been known to falter after frequent use. The plastic used to make v-boards is flexible and won’t get twisted out of shape. They are also much cheaper than wood and aluminum v-boards.

Once you have determined what type of v-boards you’d like begin searching online. Search for plastic v-boards through your favorite search engine and you’ll find that you have many options. Look through each distributor or manufacturer’s website carefully to see what they have to offer. Make sure they also have all the right credentials such as BBB approval, a proven history selling v-boards and other protective products, and a positive reputation from their past and current clients.

Save by Buying in Bulk

Buying v-boards in bulk is the best way to save. When you purchase in bulk, the price of each piece is reduced. For example, Bulk Nitrile Gloves offers the lowest wholesale rates and great bulk options. For 40″ plastic v-boards you can buy 1-20 of them at $20.00 a piece. If you buy 80 or more, the price drops to $15.00 a piece. A 40″ aluminum v-board may cost upwards of $40.00 a piece and as discussed above, you won’t get as much use out of this piece compared to what you’d get from a plastic v-board.

Evaluating Materials

You should evaluate the materials used to make your equipment and tools. You should consider whether the materials from which they are constructed will affect whether they can be adequately cleaned or properly maintained under the conditions of their use and throughout the period of their use, considering: stress and strain during use; environmental conditions during use or storage (e.g., wet, humid, dry); and the process of, and treatments used during, cleaning and, when applicable, sanitizing. Equipment and tools made of non-porous materials, such as stainless steel and food-grade plastic (e.g., PVC, nylon), could allow for a wider range of effective cleaning methods; whereas porous material, such as fabric, cardboard, foam, and carpet, can trap moisture, making it difficult to remove organic material and bacteria.

We recommend that you use equipment and tools made from non-porous materials to the extent practical. However, we understand that covered farms sometimes use porous materials such as wood, fabric, or foam when conducting covered activities. If you choose to use equipment and tools made of these materials, the equipment and tools must be of adequate design, construction, and workmanship to enable them to be adequately cleaned and properly maintained. (See 21 CFR 112.123(a). We provide further draft guidance on cleaning and sanitizing in of the section of this chapter titled “Cleaning and Sanitizing Equipment and Tools.”
